What is required for a Private Pilot Certificate?

  • Minimum of 40 hours of flight training (at least 20 hours with an instructor)
  • Minimum of 10 hours of solo flight
  • Pass a FAA written exam
  • Pass oral and flight test with an FAA designated examiner

How long will the training take?

The amount of time it takes to get your Private Certificate will depend on the individual. Flying constantly, devoting apporximately 9 hours per week to the training, you can expect to be a private pilot in less than six months.

How much will it cost?

Average cost for training in a Cessna 150 is approximately $5,500. A Cherokee or Cessna 172 will cost slightly higher. Average time for most Private Pilots is about 55 hours.
